Case Study: World Wildlife Fund and Catalyst Paper
Saving the climate through collaboration

Case Study

WWF, an international conservation organization, has long taken a collaborative approach to working with the business sector. In 1999 WWF established Climate Savers, an initiative aimed at establishing partnerships with innovative companies to help them voluntarily reduce their GHG emissions. Through the program, WWF acts as a ‘turnkey’ source for participating companies for GHG emissions reduction target setting, implementation and information sharing. In 2005, Catalyst Paper became the first Canadian company to join WWF’s Climate Savers program, and pledged to reduce its CO2 emissions to 70% below 1990 levels by 2010.
